Session Title: Next Steps for Gov 2.0 at the Local Level
Discussion Leaders:
Notes
- We discussed a plan for holding a series of several dozen open gov workshops at the local level within a one-week timeframe in October 2010.
- The purpose of the workshops will be to expand the conversation about open government to city officials so they learn effective practices from other jurisdictions, because the future of open government is local.
- The events will be modeled on the Open Government Directive Workshop Series which has been held at the federal level since November 2009.
-
- Held at a government facility to ensure government buy-in
- 1-day workshop
- Run by *teams* of volunteers
- $20 or less to attend
- Tied into the local open government community
- Notes uploaded to a wiki
- The key factor is in building a team of motivated volunteers. Each city requires a team of roughly seven volunteers: Team leader, professional facilitator, outreach coordinator, technology coordinator, logistic coordinator, sponsorship coordinator, local government liaison.
- This plan is still in its early stages and in-depth planning begins in April. Interested volunteers should contact info[at]opengovplaybook.org.
